Belgium 0 Italy 2: Wilmots´ title hopefuls fall to defeat

Italy sprung a surprise in Group E by beating Belgium as Euro 2016 s highest-ranked nation fell to a 2-0 loss in Lyon.

Marc Wilmots side, who sit second in the FIFA rankings, had been considered by many as favourites to prevail in France, but they have work to do following Monday s damaging defeat.

Emanuele Giaccherini opened the scoring with a superb two-touch finish following a stunning pass from Leonardo Bonucci.

Italy should have been two up before the break, but an unmarked Graziano Pelle contrived to send a close-range header wide.

Belgium – in their first appearance at the Euros since co-hosting the tournament in 2000 – spurned a glorious chance to make Antonio Conte s men pay when Romelu Lukaku squandered a one-on-one opportunity in …

Arsenal 2 Chelsea 0: Lacazette and Koscielny fire Gunners to rousing derby win

Arsenal returned to winning ways and reignited their bid for a top-four place in the Premier League with an excellent 2-0 triumph over Chelsea.

Alexandre Lacazette crafted a wonderful 14th-minute opener as Maurizio Sarri s side, not for the first time this season, wilted under the pressure of a London derby.

Club captain Laurent Koscielny s attempt to head Sokratis Papastathopoulos s volleyed pass six minutes before half-time spun off his shoulder and beat Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

It was the former France defender s first goal since rupturing an Achilles tendon last season and Chelsea were unable to respond.

Sokratis powered wide unmarked from an eighth-minute corner before centre-back partner Koscielny forced a point-blank save from Kepa, wh…

Brighton and Villa cleared for Europe after complying with ownership rules

Brighton and Aston Villa have been cleared by UEFA to compete in Europe in the coming season after “significant changes” were made to comply with multi-club ownership rules.

UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) had opened proceedings against the Seagulls and Belgian club Union St Gilloise – as well as Villa and Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes – due to a potential conflict with the multi-club ownership rule.

However, UEFA said the CFCB has now accepted the clubs’ admission to European competition.

Portsmouth face uncertain future

Portsmouth are again searching for new owners after parent company Convers Sports Initiatives (CSI) went into administration.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that CSI, who bought the Championship club in June, were going into administration, leaving the long-term future of Portsmouth uncertain.

Vladimir Antonov, who owned 68 percent of Snoras Bank which went into temporary administration earlier this month and is one of the main shareholders of CSI, was arrested last week for alleged fraud and forgery.

He has resigned as chairman and director of the club but has denied any wrongdoing.

Joint administrator Andrew Andronikou, who along with Peter Kubik has the task of finding new owners for Portsmouth, said the short-term future of the club was secure.

Walker undergoes abdominal surgery

Tottenham defender Kyle Walker has undergone abdominal surgery following advice from specialists.

The 24-year-old, who missed the World Cup in Brazil, has not played for the club since March and it is unclear when he is likely to return.

Tottenham released a short statement to confirm the news on Tuesday.

The England right-back s pre-season preparations were disrupted by the abdominal injury and the decision to have surgery was taken following further medical assessment by specialists, it read.

Speaking last month, head coach Mauricio Pochettino said: Kyle is good some days. On other days he has a bad feeling.

We believe he may recover soon but we need to be calm with him because it is an injury that he has had for five months.

Top 15 Hardest Bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

FromSoftware is no stranger to crafting grueling boss fights that will fuel your nightmares for years, but the studio has outdone itself with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The stellar expansion is probably some of the most difficult content the legendary Japanese studio has ever made, which is really saying something, and here, we’re going to rank what we feel are its fifteen toughest bosses.

#15. RAKSHASA

An optional boss that is far from Shadow of the Erdtree’s toughest, but still a formidable foe in his own right. Rakshasa may seem fairly nonthreatening with his spectral, humanoid form, but he has a deadly repertoire of attacks that he unleashes with h…

Returning Gundogan limps out of impressive Manchester City return

Ilkay Gundogan suffered another injury scare after his return to the Manchester City starting line-up was cut short.

Germany midfielder Gundogan tore his right anterior cruciate ligament against Watford last December but came on during a 6-0 win over the same opponents on Saturday.

City boss Pep Guardiola handed the 26-year-old a start in Wednesday s EFL Cup third-round clash at West Brom and Gundogan was instrumental in a superb first-half showing from the visitors.

Leroy Sane opened the scoring in the third minute after Gundogan had a shot saved but the former Borussia Dortmund player had his outing curtailed before the hour.

Gundogan broke up a West Brom attack and embarked upon a driving run into the opposition half, when Claudio Yacob brought him …

Messi leaving Barcelona would make things interesting for football, says Muller

Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona and starting a fresh challenge elsewhere would make things interesting for football, according to Bayern Munich attacker Thomas Muller.

Six-time Ballon d Or winner Messi informed Barca on Tuesday he wants to leave after 19 years at the club and it is believed he wants to activate a possible clause to leave on a free transfer during the current window.

Inter, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, who are managed by former Barca boss Pep Guardiola, are considered the realistic candidates to sign the 33-year-old.

Muller considers Messi to be arguably the greatest footballer of all time and is intrigued to see where the superstar forward ends up if granted his wish to leave Camp Nou.

The day Messi and Barcelona go their se…
